Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Responsible for assisting supervisor in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of facility. All aspects of field experiments and research, application of experimental treatments, plot maintenance, small and large plot harvesting, data collection and record keeping, general cropping and facility maintenance. Assist with repairs and maintenance of property and equipment to ensure operational readiness, safety and cleanliness.
Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:
Three years in agricultural work, one year of which was in agricultural research.
Three years in agricultural work, one year of which was in agricultural research.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities::
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in the use of farm equipment.
- General knowledge of and ability to use related laboratory equipment.
- General knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to perform mathematical and algebraic calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to lift and transport agricultural supplies, tools, and equipment, to climb and to perform extensive standing and walking.
- Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Other:
- Maryland Commercial Class B Driver’s License (CDL) – or obtain within six months of employment
- Maryland Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License – or obtain within 12 months of employment
- Nutrient Management Voucher Certificate – or obtain within 18 months of employment.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Comprehensive knowledge of operation of farm equipment, large or small, for most primary and secondary tillage operations, cultivating, mowing, etc.
- Skills to perform routine maintenance and necessary repairs to agriculture equipment, farm vehicles and facilities.
- Ability to keep equipment service records on computerized database.
- Understand pesticide mixing along with application and the proper procedure of disposal and cleanup.
